About

Having started my professional career as a wooden boat builder, I have a great appreciation for objects that are more than the sum of their parts. Whole days are spent making individual pieces on a boat, many seemingly unimportant, but all of them ultimately vital in the final project. I see a similarity between this truth and the way our own lives unfold. We are all the result of constant modification, disassembly, repair, and neglect leading to the individual characteristics we carry with us each day. My own life feels at times to be an assemblage of incoherent fragments, but like a boat, each piece is equally important in forming my perspective and personality.

Where wanderlust has dominated my personal life, my work has sought to provide the roots I otherwise lack. I create objects meant to last a lifetime, using locally available materials whenever possible. It is the permanence in my pieces that gives a sense of stability in my life, acting as an anchor to my senses. In a world of chaos, I take great pleasure in creating objects with a sense of stability.
